Exterior arched wood ceiling

Today's project was, as you can see, an exterior ceiling.

As with any exterior project we use an exterior product of course. In this case we are using Man O War oil based spar varnish, which might I add smells incredibly close to the smell of pine sol.  I would also recommend Helmsman spar urethane by Minwax as well. Two coats of either of these products is recommended  A light sanding will be needed in between coats with a fine 220 grit sand paper. Actually even before putting on the first coat it all had to get sanded with a more coarse 120 grit sandpaper. This was mostly because of age. It needed to all appear even, meaning no marks that would show through the clear coat.

Here is yet another view of how it looked before the clear coat.  This is after me sanding it, so it looks pretty good even now, but once you put the varnish on there is no comparison.
In order to make the process go faster I implemented using my mini roller. This is simply to get the product on the wood quicker.

Once applied by mini roller, the varnish gets smoothed out by brush. This also helps get inside the grooves better.

Here we are about half way done. At this point I have about 2 hours of sanding put into the project and 1 hour of varnishing.

Here it is all done. It really came out beautiful. I couldn't be more pleased. It is such a pleasure for me to bring life back to someone's home. I'm also thankful for being able to share it with everyone. Feel free to leave a comment and tell me your thoughts!
